A Comprehensive APPROACH TO stewardship AND ENGAGED MINISTRY

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

St. Paul in his Second Letter to the Corinthians says, "The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." We are constantly reminded in scripture that God will never be outdone in generosity, for example, in the Book of Deuteronomy, "Give liberally and be ungrudging when you do so, for on this account the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake."

When we talk about stewardship, we are referring to three areas: time, talent, and treasure. The word stewardship refers to the Catholic approach to the gifts that God has bestowed upon us. Stewardship is living out a commitment to be Christ-centered rather than self-centered. We are reminded that when we give of our time, talent, or treasure reluctantly nobody wins, especially God. St. Augustine said, "If you give bread and it makes you sad to do so, you lose both the bread and the reward." Whereas the Lord is delighted when a person gives something or gives themselves lovingly and spontaneously. In a variety of ways, we as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, share out time, talent, and treasure to build up the Church and make our world a better place.

We embrace this comprehensive approach to stewardship and engaged ministry with four principles:

Cheerfulness - Generosity - Gratitude - intentionality

I want to personally thank each and everyone of you for your continued commitment in sharing your time, talents, and treasures to our parish. We are truly blessed and grateful to have many parishioners who have given of their time, their talents, and their treasures in building up our parish community. Thank you for your commitment to parish life here at St. Denis.

As always, I welcome your comments and feedback, and once again thank you for your support of me and our community.

May our Lord continue bless you abundantly, our Lady watch over you, and all the saints guide you now and forevermore.
